Waba Cottage Museum and Gardens Feature Information - Part 1 - The Gardens

The Gardens

 

After a $17k grant through the Canada Millennium Partnership Program in 1999, the Ottawa Valley community rallied together to create seven gardens to celebrate the millennium. In the early-mid 2000’s, four more gardens were later added to make a total of 11 themed gardens across the 8 acres of property.

Glasgow Women’s Institute erected the Peace Pole in 2017. This pole was carved out by one of their members. The pole is a 6x6 cedar post. On each side they wrote the word peace in a different language. The languages are English, Algonquian, French and Gaelic. The Peace Pole symbolizes the oneness of humanity and our common wish for a world at peace. It reminds us to think, speak and act in the spirit of peace and harmony.

 

Do you love to garden? We have one full-time gardener on the property. But there is a lot of work for just one person to upkeep. The Waba gardens are still as beautiful as ever, and, even better, open for people to see during the pandemic. It’s the perfect place to take the kids, escape the kids, or have a family picnic!
