International Day of Peace Resolution
September 21st, 2020
Whereas the International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution and is observed around the world each year on September 21st; and
Whereas the International Day of Peace provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace; and
Whereas the 2020 International Day of Peace theme is “Shaping Peace Together” in recognition of the extraordinary challenges and opportunities that society as a whole is experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
Whereas the 2020 International Day of Peace strongly supports the continued fostering of compassion, kindness and hope at all times;
Therefore, I, Tom Peckett, Mayor of the Township of McNab/Braeside, do hereby proclaim September 21st, 2020 as the “International Day of Peace" in the Township of McNab/Braeside and encourage all residents to celebrate acts of kindness and to foster continued compassion, kindness and hope in our communities and beyond.
