Fire Risk HIGH - March 11, 2024

The McNab/Braeside Fire Department has raised the fire risk level to high. This is because grass fire season is here early.

You might be asking why is fire risk high because the ground is saturated? Yes, that's true, but the vegetation above the ground is dead and tinder dry. This will be the case until it starts to green up in late April to early May. Grass fires can spread quickly across fields, towards your house, towards your barn/outbuildings or a nearby bush.

Please be extra careful when burning leaves or having an outdoor fire. Have a hose line at the ready which extends well past your burn area and have a leaf rake handy.

You must have a burn permit and call in when you want to burn. Always adhere to the provisions in the burn By-Law.
