Commissioner of Oaths

The Township of McNab/Braeside has Commissioners of Oaths that are available, by appointment, to commission documents such as affidavits, oaths and statutory declarations. The Township does not have a Notary Public and cannot notarize documents. Township staff cannot answer questions about which documents need commissioning and cannot provide legal advice

Fees

It costs $5.00 per document (for Township residents) and $30.00 per document (for non-residents) for the Commissioner of Oaths to witness or sign a document. An additional $5.00 per document will be charged if you fail to make a scheduled appointment.

How do I get my document Commissioned?

- Review the list of documents below to confirm that we can commission your document.

- Contact the Township Office to make an appointment. Appointments can be made in-person at the Township Office, by telephone at (613) 623-5756 or by email at reception@mcnabbraeside.com.

- Bring a piece of government issued photo I.D. (no health cards).

- Do not sign or date the document you need commissioned prior to meeting with the Commissioner of Oaths. It is the commissioner's job to properly identify you and witness you signing any documents.

- All parties signing the document must be present, show identification, and sign the document in front of the Commissioner of Oaths. For certified copies of documents, bring the original documents and the photocopies you want to be certified – the commissioner must view the original.
