World Blood Donor Day Proclamation:
WHEREAS World Blood Donor Day takes place on June 14 and is one of only 11 official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization and is celebrated internationally;
AND WHEREAS over half of Canadians will require blood or blood plasma for themselves or know someone who will during their lifetime;
AND WHEREAS only 4% of eligible Canadians donate blood and plasma every year, which equates to just one in 81 potential donors;
AND WHEREAS blood donation includes not only the gift of whole blood, but gifts of plasma, platelets and bone marrow as well;
AND WHEREAS our community needs new donors each year to meet the need for blood now and into the future;
AND WHEREAS blood donors in Canada are the lifeblood of their communities, and their acts of kindness and generosity should be honoured and celebrated;
AND WHEREAS blood donors can help strengthen Canada’s Lifeline and make all the difference for patients in our community and beyond;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council of the Township of McNab/Braeside hereby proclaim June 14 as “World Blood Donor Day” in the Township of McNab/Braeside.
