National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism Proclamation:
WHEREAS the bombing of Air India flight 182 on June 23, 1985 caused the deaths of 329 people;
AND WHEREAS the Air India bombing was the largest mass murder and terrorist act in Canadian history;
AND WHEREAS terrorist attacks are heinous acts against humanity and have claimed thousands of victims worldwide including Canadians who have lost their lives, or experienced the loss of loved ones, through these acts of human violence;
AND WHEREAS it is important that Canadians have an opportunity to honour the memory of the victims of terrorism and to denounce terrorism;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council of the Corporation of the Township of McNab/Braeside do hereby proclaim June 23 of every year as a “National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism” in the Township of McNab/Braeside.
