Mental Illness Awareness Week - 1st Week of October

Mental Illness Awareness Week Proclamation:

WHEREAS mental health is an important part of overall health;

AND WHEREAS one in three Canadians say they are struggling with their mental health; 

AND WHEREAS many Canadians feel they need professional mental health care but cannot access it;

AND WHEREAS early identification and treatment can make a difference in the successful management of mental illness and recovery;

AND WHEREAS everyone in Canada should have access to publicly funded, evidence-based mental health and substance abuse health programs;

AND WHEREAS every citizen and community can make a difference in helping end the silence and stigma that for too long has surrounded mental illness and discouraged people from getting help;

AND WHEREAS public education and civic activities can encourage mental health and help improve the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council of the Township of McNab/Braeside hereby proclaim the first week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week in the Township of McNab/Braeside.
